Baby Sweeps

Baby Sweeps at BabyPool.com are interactive web pages where guests get involved and become participants in a private baby sweep. On the left side of the Baby Sweep Page is the Sweep Page Menu, and on the right you will find the BabyPool.com Sweep Matrix.

The Baby Sweep Page menu starts with a link to the baby sweep's Baby Sweep Home Page so that your guests and participants can get back to your baby sweep home. The second menu item is a listing of the current blocks selected for reservation, we will get to reserving blocks in a moment. When there are no blocks currently selected for reservation this section will display "No new blocks to reserve". When blocks have been selected for reservation a listing of the blocks selected will appear. This list will contain the information about each block as well as a link to delete it before it is reserved. Once a block is reserved only the baby sweeps administrator can delete it. When there are blocks listed to be reserved a Reserve Blocks button is visible below the list of blocks. After a participant has finished selecting all of their blocks to be reserved they must click this button so that the blocks will be recorded.

Regardless of what type of baby sweeps you setup, time based baby sweeps or weight and length based baby sweeps at the top of the Sweep Matrix is a Sweep Matrix Legend. This Legend displays the different colors of blocks that can be found on an active Sweep Matrix. If the baby sweep is a time based sweep the first color in the legend is yellow. Yellow blocks denote the expected day of birth. Blocks that are available to be reserved are displayed in a more neutral almond color. Should you happen to be selecting blocks for reservation at the same time as other participants the blocks that others are reserving will appear in a dark teal and the blocks you have selected to be reserved will appear in a dark gray. After blocks have been reserved and they are "owned" by a participant they will appear in blue if they are owned by you or pink if owned by another participant. In a time based babysweep the blocks will become a darker shade with the passing of time and will become "locked" or unable to be reserved because they no longer have a chance to be a winning block.

The type of baby sweep you setup at BabyPool.com will determine the type of Sweep Matrix that is displayed on your Baby Sweep Page. A time based baby sweep will show days displayed horizontally in rows and hours of the day displayed vertically in columns. Weight and length baby sweeps show weight displayed horizontally in rows and length displayed vertically in columns. In a time based baby sweep one block is one hour in a day, and each block displays the hour it corresponds to. In weight and length based baby sweeps one block is an inch or centimeter of length to the set weight of a column. In a weight and length based baby sweep the sweep administrator can set the units of measure for the babysweep to be English (inches, pounds, ounces) or Metric (centimeters, kilograms).

At the four corners of the Sweep Matrix are buttons to move the Sweep Matrix either forward or backward. In time based baby sweeps the Forward button will move the ahead in time in increments of 5 days, equal to 5 blocks. While the Back button will move the back in time in increments of 5 days, equal to 5 blocks. In weight and length based baby sweeps the Forward button will move the Sweep Matrix ahead an increment of 1 pound or .45 kilograms or equal to 16 blocks and the Back button will move the Sweep matrix back an increment of 1 pound or .45 kilograms or equal to 16 blocks.

When a guest or participant views a Sweep Matrix for the first time they will see that the Sweep Matrix is centered on the expected day of birth if it is a time based baby sweep, and centered between 7 pounds 7 ounces and 7 pounds 8 ounces ( 3.377 kilograms and 3.405 kilograms) if the baby sweep is based on weight and length.

To reserve blocks in the Sweep Matrix a guest will click on the link in each block they would like to reserve. When the link is clicked the page is refreshed and the block that was clicked changes color and is locked so that no one else may reserve it.

After the guest has finished selecting all of the blocks that they would like to reserve they must click the Reserve Blocks button in the menu on the left. After clicking the Reserve Blocks button the guest will be displayed a form for them to fillout so that their blocks can be reserved in their name. The form requires the guests first and last name and e-mail address. The guest can also veture a guess as to what sex they think the baby will be and there are input fields for the guest to suggest names for the baby, one field for girl names and one field for boy names. The guest can submit as many names as they would like by separating each name with a comma. For example:

Jason, John, Donald

When a guest has finished filling out the form they must click the Continue button for their information to be recorded and their blocks to be reserved. After the Continue button is pressed the participant will be redirected back to the Baby Sweep Page where they will see that their newly reserved blocks are now the color blue and locked so that no one else can reserve the same block.
